How to Communicate About Climate Without Making People Feel Hopeless

Welcome to my weekly blog!

Every Wednesday at 1 pm, I will do my best to share thoughts, fresh perspectives, and knowledge on how to solve one of the most critical communication challenges of our time.

Today, I would like to present to you why I think there's a need to dive into this topic.

It shouldn’t be so hard to convince people to protect the planet they depend on.

As environmentalists, activists, and climate communicators, we all want to convince people that the green future is a better alternative to what we have today.

But somehow, we’re still being ignored.

And because we’re being ignored, insufficient resources are allocated to green programs. Green projects in companies are often given low priority.

And when it comes to policy, public opinion doesn’t always match or support the green agenda.

If you care about the environment today, it’s hard not to feel hopeless.

But what if we're looking at this all wrong?

What if the problem isn’t that people don’t care but that the messaging around climate is overwhelming?

I’ve spent 20 years as a professional communicator. And if there’s one thing I’ve learned, it’s that the best way to move people to action is to tell them a story that they actually want to be a part of.

Climate change IS an urgent problem. But we’ve spent 3 decades proving that negative, doomsday messaging simply doesn’t work.

Let’s stop wasting time on ineffective messaging. We don’t have time to waste.

Tell a story that people actually would like to be a part of!

If we can tell a better story, a story about the green shift that instead of scaring people gets them excited about the future, we can finally join together to save the planet we depend on.

Let’s tell a true story about the environment that people actually want to be a part of.

It’s time for climate communicators to stop being ignored and start being heard.

Sign up underneath, and you'll get access to a great resource. In the PDF I explore Five Messaging Mistakes that are very common within Climate communication.

All five are things I believe we need to fix in order to drive climate action going forward!

See you next week!
